Summer reading is almost here!
WHEN: Sign ups start June 1st and the finale will be July 27th!
WHO: All ages! Our age groups this year are: birth to five, six to twelve, thirteen to seventeen, and adult.
WHAT: Children birth to seventeen are challenged to read 600 minutes this summer while winning prizes along the way! In addition for the chance to win a grand prize, participants can win “Library Bucks.” Library Bucks are special summer reading money that can be used in the summer reading store. Prizes are as follows:
150 Minutes = 5 library bucks
300 Minutes = 10 library bucks & 1 entry into the Grand Prize Drawing
450 Minutes = 15 library bucks & 2 entries into the Grand Prize Drawing
600 Minutes = 20 library bucks, 3 entries into the Grand Prize Drawing, and the SC Reading Award Medal!
Adults will receive one raffle ticket every time they check out books! There will be a drawing for a prize basket in both June and July at every single location!
WHERE: All library branches and the Bookmobile will be participating in this year’s summer reading program!
While the schedule looks like most of the programs will take place in Marion and Mullins, don’t worry! Nichols and the Bookmobile are not being left out! With the help of a donation from Katrina’s Kids, the Nichols Library has been refitted to include LOTS of programming for children of all ages. Now, children can play with toys, board games, STEM materials, crafts, etc ANYTIME they want.
The Bookmobile will also have programs in a bag for children to take with them!
Also, every child that attends a program during summer reading will have all FINES and FEES forgiven on their cards! While we cannot forgive replacement costs for missing items, we hope that clearing out all other charges for children will provide them with greater access to books.
Check out some of those awesome programs below, but please note that this schedule may be subject to change:
