South Carolina and Local History Collection: The Library recognizes the particular interest in Local and State history and seeks to build, maintain, and preserve a strong collection of published materials on Marion County, the Pee Dee Area, and South Carolina. These materials are assigned to the Reference Collection, the circulating South Carolina Collection, or the non-circulating South Carolina Room Collection depending on appropriate use, value, number of copies available, and special preservation considerations. Materials on South Carolina, the Pee Dee Area, and Marion County and by South Carolina, Pee Dee or Marion authors will be selected when they contain pertinent information and make a significant contribution to literature or the study of state or local history.
The South Carolina State Library collects published materials about South Carolina history, including biographies and county histories. The State Library does not collect family histories, public records, or manuscripts. For genealogical collections, please connect to the following link:

Building Blocks Collection: Being a parent is the most important job you'll ever have. Good information makes parenting and caring for children easier. By age four (4), 50% of a child's intellectual development has occurred, so those early years really are important ones. The library has developed a special parenting collection just for you! We look forward to having you come to the library. Let us show you what we have and help you find what you need. It is the goal of the Marion County Library to provide parents and caregivers in our community help in dealing with those early years of parenting and beyond. Storytelling Collection: We have Storytelling Kits available to Day Care Teachers that provide a whole weeks worth of books and related activities for you to use in your centers. Each kit contains five books (one for each day!) chosen around a special theme like Pigs, Music, Foods, Babies, Hats, Fathers, Elephants, Circus, Colors, Friends, Dogs, Zoo, Shapes and much, much more. To see the list of kits that we have, use the OPAC: type in Storytelling Kits under the Keyword search and the list will come up. More than 70 kits are available for check out. All have songs, rhymes, finger plays, and ideas for activities.
Assistive Computer and Materials: The library system's collection includes Large Print materials and also registers patrons with the South Carolina Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped when appropriate. The headquarters library has a complete reading and computer system for use by persons who are visually impaired.
Computer and Internet Training: Basic classes on Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and searching the Internet available on request.
