Kate Lilly Blue (September 23, 1869 - April 19, 1954) was a librarian, a genealogist, and a historical writer, as well as a member of the prominent Blue family, one of the earliest families to settle in Marion County.
In 1889, after the Marion Public Library became the first tax-supported library in the state of South Carolina, Ms. Kate Lilly Blue became the first person to keep up with the library's books and distribution. Later, after a professional librarian was hired, Ms. Blue would become the driver, when necessary, of the library's "bookmobile" -- a mule-drawn wagon that delivered books to those unable to come into town.
In our SC Room collection, located in the Marion headquarters branch, you can learn more about Ms. Blue and her contributions. Our SC Room houses a wealth of information about local history, families, churches, and more.
