Back-to-School Databases

discus

The new school year is under way! Thanks to SC DISCUS, this year we are offering several new databases that can help students of all ages, from kindergarten to high school.

BrainPOP Jr.
BrainPOP Jr. is designed for children in grades K-3. This fun source for young learners features lessons on science, health, social studies, math, arts & technology, and reading & writing. Each subject includes short educational movies, interactive games and activities, lesson ideas and family activities for teachers and parents, and printable quizzes and worksheets. All the text in each lesson is also read aloud, making it easy to use even for beginning readers.

Ancestry Database + Genealogy Reading

Great news for genealogists! Marion County Library now has access to Ancestry.com’s Library Edition. This popular genealogy database is powerful but easy to use. You can search centuries’ worth of census records from all over the world, download ancestry charts and research calendars for your recordkeeping, and then share information with other genealogists on Ancestry’s public message boards.

The database is available on every computer in our Marion library, including a dedicated computer in our South Carolina Room, giving easy access to our other materials.

I ♥ my library because...

"It opens our minds to new ideas and places. The library also gives children a safe place to go after school. Libraries are free to everyone and the best public service offered!"
